About

Welcome to nosegarden!

This is the website (read: blog) of Dan Hanasono aka Danno aka nosegarden.  I am a graphic designer, project & people coordinator, and amateur writer based in Vancouver, BC.

A common question that I’m asked is why nosegarden?  My last name is Hanasono, which translated literally means “Flower Garden” or “Scent Garden”… loosely translated it is “Nose Garden”, which is oddly more fitting to me.  Just as the nose can symbolize curiosity, or attention, or nosiness – I am trying to cultivate that which may keep you attenuated to this here blog (read: nose, ego, cogito ergo sum, etc.).

I’m not going to whip out my credentials like a prepaid credit card, but let’s just say my interests are broad like Michael Bay and his projects.  I’m always taking pictures, jotting down my little annotations (read: dannotations, how do you like that one?, no?, no?), and looking for a day when people in North America think kohlrabi is cool.

First point of entry: a Joke
What type of bean does the cyclist avoid? The garbanzo…in case it causes them to falafel it!

Second point of entry: this blog design
I can’t take credit for creating this from scratch…my goal was to get this up and running in two days.  If you want to do something like this, here is a list of resources I used.
Webhost: Dreamhost
CMS Engine: Wordpress
Wordpress Theme: Glassical (under GPL) by Abdullah Ibrahim on Smashing Magazine with modifications to CSS, HTML, & Javascript
Custom Fonts: Typekit
Coffee: Hazelmere Organic Coffee from the Vancouver Farmers Markets: location West End Market made in a 6-cup Bialetti
Background Image: Taken this past summer from Mt. Douglas in Greater Victoria, BC facing precious farmland

Third point of entry: the real About Me
It would be a very long exercise in egocentrism to jot down my life story here.  You’d be mad and want your time back, so instead I have another section called “Projects” which lists some things I’m working on/supporting/reading about.  Also, check out the tag “latest news“, for posts specific to my day to day. Enjoy!

Good thing I found you again, mr. ex-penguinrobot/ketchupman! I’ll be scanning your blog for things to do in Vancouver cuz I’ll be visiting Chilliwac (or however you spell it) for a few days. So thanx for the links and I hope you’ve listed your fav eats somewhere on this blog so I can find it!

Jazz!!! Coolio. Chilliwack. One of my favorite named cities in the world cause neither is there much Chili, nor is it “wack”, however there is great fishing and some beautiful farm/ranch land out there. I suggest fly fishing if you get a chance although it is freezing. If you want some eats in Vancouver recommendations, let me know and I’ll send you a list!
