The protein requirement is about half a gram for each pound of body weight, which works out to 55 grams for a 120-pound woman and 65 grams or so for a 180-pound man.

I thought this was a handy dandy thing to know. How much protein do we need each day? I don’t have a grasp of how much protein one gets from eating vegan, but I’ve noticed that most people I know eat a grippin’ ton of protein everyday. 65 grams. That’s 65 paperclips of protein everyday…not very much at all.

I do appreciate Marion Nestle’s writings. She does a good job of removing the veil of special interest and food lobbying and communicates a raw nutritional view.
